Professor Ismael Herrera Revilla is Distinguished Professor in the Natural Resources Department of Geophysics Institute at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He received a BA in Mathematics from UNAM and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. His main research interests are Mathematical Modelling of continuum systems and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations such as Domain Decomposition Methods. His current and recent professional service activities include Editor of Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations magazine, President of Mexican Society of Numerical Methods on Engineering and Applied Sciences, and beeing an active member of many Scientific Societies in Mexico, USA and Europe.
He has received the three most important awards for mexican scientist: National Science, Mexican Academy of Sciences and "Luis Elizondo" award. He is considered the most important Applied Mathematician in Mexico for the amount of publications and quotations of his work and for the importance of his research in many scientific areas.
He has made many scientific contributions on a wide range of engineering and science topics. In spite of this, we can split his work in the area: NUMERICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL METHODS IN PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCE RESEARCH. At present, his research is focused on numerical and computational methods for partial differential equations.
